Language Arts and Reading
The purpose of reading in language arts classes is to promote comprehension by helping students to grasp the meaning of various texts. Reading assignments need to help teach students how to acquire new information, knowledge, and understanding.
In a class setting, there will be a wide range of reading ability among the students. Maintaining student interest is very important. Teaching with well-known books, books that are known winners, is a good way for teachers to increase their odds for success.
It was with this consideration that Book Punch was designed. Book Punch uses well-known novels as the foundation of its language arts curriculum. Titles covered include modern classics such as "Frindle," "Because of Winn-Dixie," "Holes," "Hatchet," and "The Outsiders."
By using popular literature as a foundation, Book Punch's language arts activities are based on topics that students find interesting and relevant to their lives.
