After Reading Activities

After reading, strategic readers summarize what they have been reading and contemplate their first impressions. They reflect and take second looks to develop more thoughtful and critical interpretations of the text. They also make applications of the ideas encountered in the text by extending these ideas to broader perspectives. A comprehension check is undertaken here, utilizing the overall purpose.

Book Punch's Evidence and Inference activities help student find details in the text that support their inferences. The reading check section tests their over all comprehension of the book.

After students finish the book, ask them what they learned from the story, what they think of the story, how it effected them and what was new.

Have students complete the Book Punch Reading Check where they will write brief responses answering specific questions about the book. The reading check will analyze students' responses for specific keywords and phrases to determine each students comprehension of the book.

Have students complete the Evidence and Inference section of Book Punch, which they may have worked on while reading the book.
